  2. Make ready 1/2 Kilogram Squid
  3. Get 1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric powder
  4. Take 1 (1/2) Teaspoon Chilly Red powder
  5. Get 1/2 Teaspoon Pepper powder
  6. Take 1 Sprig Curry Leaves
  7. Get as needed salt

  9. Take 2 coconut Oil
  10. Get 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil
  11. Get 1 Teaspoon Mustard
  12. Take 1/4 Teaspoon Fennel
  13. Take 2 Onion Sliced
  14. Get 2 tomato
  15. Take 1 Greenchillies
  16. Prepare 1 Teaspoon Gingerchopped
  17. Get 1/4 Teaspoon Tumeric Powder
  18. Take 2 Teaspoons Red Chilli Powder
  19. Get 1/4 Teaspoon Pepper Powder
  20. Make ready Salt
  21. Get 3 Garlic Crushed
  22. Take Curryleaves

In a wok or pan heat oil add cumin, mustard seeds and allow to splutter. Place onion and curry leaves into the oil and fry till onion turns golden brown. This dish was a bit of a trick since it is tough to get it cooked in such a short time. Add green chili, coconut bits, curry leaves and fry for a minute.

Steps to make Spicy Squid Masala Fry:
  1. Clean and cut the squid into rings and marinate it with above listed ingredients under section 'For Marinade', for 1/2 hour.
  2. In a pan,heat oil and fry the squid/koonthal/kanava, on low flame for 5-8 minutes.(Make sure that you do not over fry it as the meat will become rubbery.) Transfer it to plate and keep aside.
  3. In the same oil, add 1 Tbsp of oil, splutter mustard seeds, add fennel seeds. When it leaves its aroma, add the slices onions, green chilly and ginger to it.
  4. Saute till the onions, turn into light brown in color.
  5. Add turmeric, red chilly and pepper powder. Saute for 2 minutes and add the roughly chopped tomato into it.Let it cook and the gravy turns mushy. Add salt and curry leaves. Saute well.
  6. Now lower the heat and add the fried squid/koonthal to it and mix well. Add 1/4 cup of water, mix well and close the lid and cook for 10 minutes on a medium flame.
  7. Open the lid, add crushed garlic,(no need to stir it),off the flame, drizzle some coconut oil, Close the lid for about 10 minutes or until served, for the flavor to set inside itself.
  8. Delicious squid/kanava/koonthal masala fry is ready to be served.
  9. Serve with hot steamed rice, vellayappam,spongy dosa…..enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!

This dish was a bit of a trick since it is tough to get it cooked in such a short time. Add green chili, coconut bits, curry leaves and fry for a minute. Then add shallots and fry till light brown in color. Place one or two fish slices on the bed of curry leaves in the oil and fry the fish on low flame. Fry the fish to a golden brown color on both sides.
