Rasam is one of the most favored of recent trending foods on earth. It’s easy, it is quick, it tastes yummy. It is appreciated by millions every day. They are fine and they look fantastic. Rasam is something that I’ve loved my entire life.

Rasam recipe - Simple, easy & quick recipe to make delicious rasam at home. Also known as saaru in Kannada and chaaru in Telugu, rasam is a most basic and essential dish in a South Indian meal. Rasam normally forms the second course in a traditional south Indian menu. There are various way of preparing it.

The ingredients needed to make Rasam:
  1. Get 1 Tamarind- lime sized
  2. Get 1 Tomato (finely chopped or crushed)
  3. Take 1 Green Chilli
  4. Get 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  5. Take 3 cups Water
  6. Prepare to taste Salt
  7. Prepare 2 tbsp Oil
  8. Make ready 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  9. Make ready 7-8 Curry leaves
  10. Get 1/2 tsp Asafoetida powder (hing)
  11. Take As required Coriander leaves (cilantro) chopped

You can replace my rasam powder with store bought rasam powder too. This can be made with few variations too, which I always do. Hot rasam, hot rice plus ghee - heavenly combination. Rasam is a south Indian soup which is eaten with rice.

Steps to make Rasam:
  1. Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of warm water for 5 minutes to extract the tamarind juice. Smash the tomato in tamarind juice. Crush garlic, curry leaves and green chillies.
  2. Heat little oil in a pan and pop the mustard seeds and urad dal add crushed masala, hing and turmeric powder. Fry for 2-3 mintues.
  3. Add tamarind and tomato juice, salt and required water. Cook till boils. Turn off the flame and add coriander leaves. Transfer to a serving dish and keep it covered with a lid to retain it's aroma until you are ready to serve.

Hot rasam, hot rice plus ghee - heavenly combination. Rasam is a south Indian soup which is eaten with rice. It is a delicious soup and is very light and good for fevers, coughs and cold.
