Rasam recipe - Simple, easy & quick recipe to make delicious rasam at home. Also known as saaru in Kannada and chaaru in Telugu, rasam is a most basic and essential dish in a South Indian meal. Rasam normally forms the second course in a traditional south Indian menu. There are various way of preparing it.
To begin with this recipe, we have to first prepare a few ingredients. You can cook rasam using 14 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you cook it.
The ingredients needed to make Rasam:
- Get 5-6 tomatoes
- Get 1/2 spoon black pepper
- Prepare 1/2 spoon fengureek seeds
- Take 1/2 spoon cumin
- Get 1 red chilli
- Take 4-5 garlic piece
- Take 1 inch ginger
- Take 1 green chilli
- Prepare 1/2 spoon or as per taste salt
- Take 1/4 spoon Turmeric powder
- Make ready 8-10 curry leaves
- Get 1/2 spoon mustard seeds
- Get 2 spoon chopped coriander leaves
- Get 1 spoon oil
You can replace my rasam powder with store bought rasam powder too. This can be made with few variations too, which I always do. Hot rasam, hot rice plus ghee - heavenly combination. Rasam is a south Indian soup which is eaten with rice.
Steps to make Rasam:
- Dry roast fengureek seeds, cumin and black pepper for 1-2 minutes. Let's it be cool then coarsely grounded it.
- In mixi jar put chopped tomatoes, ginger, garlic and green chilli.Coarsely grounded this.
- Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, red chilli and curry leaves saute for few seconds.
- Now add tomatoes paste, salt, turmeric and grounded Rashmi powder, mix well.
- Add one and half glass of water and bring it to boil when it's boiled add chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
Hot rasam, hot rice plus ghee - heavenly combination. Rasam is a south Indian soup which is eaten with rice. It is a delicious soup and is very light and good for fevers, coughs and cold.
