The ingredients needed to make Rasam:
  1. Get 3-4 tomatoes chopped
  2. Get 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  3. Get 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

  5. Take Pinch hing/asafoetida
  6. Prepare Few Curry leaves
  7. Take 2-3 garlic chopped
  8. Take as per taste salt
  9. Take 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  10. Prepare as tamarind
  11. Get as required jaggery
  12. Prepare Handful chopped coriander leaves
  13. Take 1 glass water
  14. Take For rasam powder:
  15. Make ready 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  16. Prepare 1/4 tsp peppercorns
  17. Prepare 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
  18. Make ready 1 small red chilli

You can replace my rasam powder with store bought rasam powder too. This can be made with few variations too, which I always do. Hot rasam, hot rice plus ghee - heavenly combination. Rasam is a south Indian soup which is eaten with rice.

Instructions to make Rasam:
  1. Grind the masala to make rasam powder.
  2. Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chopped garlic, curry leaves,hing let it crackle and become crisp then add chopped tomatoes.
  3. Now add turmeric powder and salt and allow the tomato to get soft.
  4. Then add the rasam powder. Finally, add a glass of water and let it boil vigorously. At last add jaggery and tamarind pulp. And allow to boil for 3-4 mins.
  5. Finally add coriander leaves and serve.

Hot rasam, hot rice plus ghee - heavenly combination. Rasam is a south Indian soup which is eaten with rice. It is a delicious soup and is very light and good for fevers, coughs and cold.
