Rasam recipe - Simple, easy & quick recipe to make delicious rasam at home. Also known as saaru in Kannada and chaaru in Telugu, rasam is a most basic and essential dish in a South Indian meal. Rasam normally forms the second course in a traditional south Indian menu. There are various way of preparing it.
To begin with this particular recipe, we must first prepare a few ingredients. You can have rasam using 11 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you cook that.
The ingredients needed to make Rasam:
- Get 5-6 tomatoes
- Take 8-10 curry leaves
- Get 1/4 cup coriander leaves
- Take 1 tsp cumin seeds
- Get 1 tsp mustard seeds
- Make ready 2 whole Kashmiri red chilli
- Get 8-10 garlic pods
- Get 1/2 tsp hing / asafoetida
- Get 2 tsp salt
- Get 2 tbsp ghee
- Make ready 2 tsp lime juice
You can replace my rasam powder with store bought rasam powder too. This can be made with few variations too, which I always do. Hot rasam, hot rice plus ghee - heavenly combination. Rasam is a south Indian soup which is eaten with rice.
Instructions to make Rasam:
- Firstly boil the tomatoes for 4-5 mins. - Drain out the water and keep aside to cool and then make a puree.
- Now dry roast cumin seeds black pepper corn and 1 whole red chilli.till it leaves aroma.
- Let it cool the put it a mixer jar and grind.
- Now heat ghee in a kadhai and add mustard seeds when they start spluttering add finely chopped garlic and roast til it changes it colour to brown.
- Now add hing coriander and curry leaves stir and saute for 2 mins. - Now add the tomato puree and cook on low flame till ghee separates and tomato mixture starts leaving sides.
- Now adjust the gravy by adding at least 2 glasses if water - Now add the dry roasted powder and let it boil.
- After 1st boil let lower the flame and let the gravy boil well for at least 10 mins.
- Off the flame garnish with coriander leaves spring some lime juice and serve hot with white rice.
