Rasam recipe - Simple, easy & quick recipe to make delicious rasam at home. Also known as saaru in Kannada and chaaru in Telugu, rasam is a most basic and essential dish in a South Indian meal. Rasam normally forms the second course in a traditional south Indian menu. There are various way of preparing it.
To begin with this recipe, we have to first prepare a few ingredients. You can have rasam using 12 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you can achieve that.
The ingredients needed to make Rasam:
- Make ready 4 tomato
- Take 1/2 cup Tamarind
- Take 2 spoon rasam powder
- Take 1 spoon sugar
- Take 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- Make ready Pinch asafoetida
- Prepare 3-4 dry red chilli
- Get 8-10 curry leaves
- Make ready 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- Get 2 tsp crushed garlic
- Get To taste Salt
- Prepare 2 tsp Green Coriander leaves(optional)
You can replace my rasam powder with store bought rasam powder too. This can be made with few variations too, which I always do. Hot rasam, hot rice plus ghee - heavenly combination. Rasam is a south Indian soup which is eaten with rice.
Steps to make Rasam:
- Boil 4 tomatoes and lemon sized ball of tamarind.
- Cool, mash and remove and discard the pulp. Add salt, 1/4 tsp or sugar.
- 2 Tbsp of the rasam powder, 1.5 cups of water and mix well.
- Heat ghee in a kadai, add mustard, jeera, hing, 2 dry red chillies, spring of curry leaves, turmeric powder, 3 cloves of crushed garlic fry for a minute and then add the tomato mixture. Wait till you see foam on the top and add some chopped coriander. Never boil rasam.

- Yummy and healthy rasam is ready to serve.
