Rasam recipe - Simple, easy & quick recipe to make delicious rasam at home. Also known as saaru in Kannada and chaaru in Telugu, rasam is a most basic and essential dish in a South Indian meal. Rasam normally forms the second course in a traditional south Indian menu. There are various way of preparing it.

The ingredients needed to make Rasam:
  1. Take 3-4 tomatoes
  2. Prepare 2 tsp tamarind
  3. Make ready 1 tsp mustard seeds
  4. Take 1 tsp cumin seeds
  5. Take 1 pinch hing/asafoetida
  6. Make ready 1 chopped garlic
  7. Make ready 1 tsp curry leaves
  8. Prepare 4-5 tsp red chilli powder
  9. Get 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  10. Get 1/4 tsp cumin powder
  11. Prepare 1 tsp garam masala
  12. Make ready 1 tsp rasam masala
  13. Take 2 tsp salt
  14. Prepare 1 tsp chopped coriander leaves
  15. Take 1 cup water

You can replace my rasam powder with store bought rasam powder too. This can be made with few variations too, which I always do. Hot rasam, hot rice plus ghee - heavenly combination. Rasam is a south Indian soup which is eaten with rice.

Steps to make Rasam:
  1. Take a bowl add tomatoes with a slit cut
  2. Add tamarind, water and heat till tomatoes are soft
  3. Let it cool for 10 minutes and pake it's paste in mixie
  4. Strain it
  5. Take a pan heat oil. Crackle mustard seeds and cumin
  6. Add garlic, curry leaves. Mix it
  7. Add red chilli powder, black pepper powder, cumin powder, garam masala, rasam masala, tomato water, salt
  8. Mix well and cook for 7-8 minutes
  9. Then serve it with rice

Hot rasam, hot rice plus ghee - heavenly combination. Rasam is a south Indian soup which is eaten with rice. It is a delicious soup and is very light and good for fevers, coughs and cold.
